Meet Leo, one of GroundProbe’s Senior Geotechnical Engineers based in our Brisbane office, who is marking his fifth anniversary with the company.
Leo’s journey with GroundProbe began five years ago, and since then, he has been key in developing new monitoring tools and solutions. His work reflects GroundProbe’s DNA—innovation. This was on show when he presented at the 2024 Slope Stability Symposium, showcasing our cutting-edge advancements to the industry.
Before his current role, Leo honed his expertise as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for tailing dams and led the Geotechnical Support Services (GSS) monitoring team in Belo Horizonte. His leadership extended beyond technical skills, as he worked closely with business units to support our customers, ensuring that GroundProbe’s values of respect for employees, customers, and society were met.
Leo’s belief in GroundProbe’s innovative spirit has been a driving force in his career. He has enjoyed diverse situations, from visiting various mines with unique challenges to collaborating with remarkable individuals. His previous role was as the leader of over 40 professionals at the remote monitoring centre in Belo Horizonte, where his team monitored over 50 sensors around the clock, providing unparalleled support to customer sites across Brazil.
Leo looks back on his time at GroundProbe, noting the important milestones and daily experiences that have been highlights of his career. He feels incredibly fortunate to have integrated his passions into his professional life, thriving in a role that rewards him for doing what he loves. Additionally, the opportunity for continuous learning has been a constant in his career, with new insights into geotechnics, technology, corporate dynamics, and cultural diversity enriching his career.
Leo appreciates the chance to visit numerous mines worldwide, stating,
“Traveling to various mining sites has not only broadened my understanding of operations but also allowed me to immerse myself in diverse cultures, which has been very insightful.”
He also values the chance to share his expertise, noting,
“Imparting my knowledge to peers in the mining industry has been immensely fulfilling, knowing that it could enhance their geotechnical monitoring practices.”
Working at GSS has offered Leo the pleasure of collaborating with a fantastic team of geotechnical engineers. The mutual exchange of knowledge and expertise within the team has been a cornerstone of his positive experience.
