
Peter Saunders
Head of GeotechnicalWith more than 20 years of experience as a Rock Mechanics Engineer in various senior operational mining and corporate level Geotechnical roles, Peter is now leading GroundProbe’s global team of more than 130 qualified Rock Mechanics Engineers and radar operators providing remote monitoring and other geotechnical support services worldwide.
Peter’s extensive operational mining experience has allowed him to develop his skill set to become a global leader in Geotechnical risk management and monitoring strategies for large open-cut mines. He also has experience with various underground mining methods, including long-hole open-stoping and sub-level and block cave mining.
Peter pioneered the GSS Remote Monitoring service, which has now expanded globally, with three monitoring centres providing the service in 4 languages from Indonesia, Chile and Brazil.
Peter completed a double major Bachelor of Science in Exploration Geophysics and Geology at the University of QLD. He holds a Graduate Certificate in Mining Geomechanics and completed the coursework component of a Master of Engineering Science (Mining Geomechanics) at Curtin’s Western Australia School of Mines in Kalgoorlie and is a Member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (MAusIMM CP(Geotech) RPEQ).
