He will also focus on tracking and communicating reliability trends to drive improvements. Andy brings a wealth of experience to this role, including his background as a Technical Specialist.
We recently caught up with Andy …
Andy’s Journey to GroundProbe
Andy, you’ve been with GroundProbe for quite some time now. Can you share what initially brought you to the company and how your background as a qualified fitter and turner/tool maker contributed to your transition?
“I came to GroundProbe after nearly eight years as a fitter and turner/tool maker. I wanted a change and also had a growing family. I wanted to do something that would allow me to travel and develop in different ways, both professionally and personally. My background in mechanical work has helped me in many roles here, especially in problem-solving and understanding the technical side of things.”
The Adventures of Travel and Collaboration
You’ve had the chance to travel for work, which is pretty exciting! Can you tell us about some of the most memorable places you’ve visited and the people you’ve met along the way?
“Traveling for work has been one of the highlights for me. I’ve had the opportunity to visit different mine sites all over Queensland, New South Wales, Perth, PNG, and even my homeland, New Zealand. Each place brought something new. I’ve had the chance to meet many wonderful people from different backgrounds and cultures, which has been a very rewarding experience.”
Working in a global team often involves collaborating with people from various parts of the world. How has working with such a diverse group of people influenced you in and out of the office?
“It’s been a great experience! Working with people from all around the world has helped me see things in new ways. I’ve learned a lot from them that I can use in my personal life and at work.”
Embracing Technology and Innovation
Technology and innovation are a big part of your role at GroundProbe. Can you tell us about some new skills you’ve picked up around software, electrical, and mechanical systems?
“Absolutely! I’ve had the chance to dive into new technology, and it’s been a great learning curve. Working with software has helped me troubleshoot and support systems more effectively. I’ve gained knowledge and skills around new technology, including software, electrical, and mechanical. I started as a technician, so my time in the field greatly assisted me in my current role as the Support Desk Officer by having field knowledge of the radars and working hands-on troubleshooting problems.”
Driving Operational Excellence
What are you working on now?
“I’m currently reviewing and updating our Safe Work Procedures, making sure they’re accurate and practical for everyone. I’m also developing an exciting project to create more troubleshooting documentation. The goal is to empower teams across our business units to resolve technical issues independently, which will help streamline operations.”
Andy’s journey at GroundProbe exemplifies the company’s commitment to growth, collaboration, and innovation. His passion for problem-solving, combined with his technical expertise, ensures that GroundProbe continues to deliver exceptional support to our global teams. We’re excited to see Andy thrive in his new role and make a lasting impact across our business.
We’re confident he will continue to achieve great things here at GroundProbe!
